Ms. Yordanka Fandakova is a Bulgarian politician and Mayor of Sofia. She is the first woman to hold this position.
She graduated the 35th Russian Language School in Sofia and the University of Sofia, majoring in Russian Studies. Between 1985 and 1998, she worked as a teacher in Sofia, and then for seven years, until 2005, she served as principal of the same school.
In 2005, upon the election of Boyko Borisov as mayor of Sofia, Fandakova was appointed as Deputy Mayor for education, youth, culture and science. She held the position until July 2009 when Borisov was elected as prime minister.
She served for several months as Education Minister in the first Borisov cabinet before running in the by-elections for mayor of Sofia in November 2009. In October 2015 Fandakova was re-elected for Third term Mayor of Sofia. Upon completion of her third term in 2019, she will become the longest serving mayor of the Bulgarian capital.
Ms. Fandakova is patron of the Leadership Academy of the Council of Women in Business in Bulgaria.
